Riot banned 50,000 accounts that used this bot to farm event tokens

League of Legends

League of Legends developers have banned a huge number of accounts that were linked to a certain TFT bot.

TFT is, in a way, a separate game in the LoL client, which is related to the main title (it features characters known from Summoner’s Rift) and has an impact on the event missions that appear when new event passes are introduced.

Of course, getting tokens while playing TFT is much slower and in the long run, it is not as profitable as playing, for example, in rotation mode or Howling Abyss.

So why do so many people decide to play Teamfight Tactics? The answer is very simple – the game does not require that much commitment, you can easily participate in the match while doing something on the second monitor, and even play Tactics outside the home (the title is available on mobile devices).

This form of gameplay encourages making all kinds of bots that would perform simple activities like buying characters and putting them on the battlefield. Then the system would not detect that the player is AFK, and opponents would not have to notice that someone in the group of people is not a real human.

No wonder many LoL fans have been tempted to use bots that farmed event tokens for them and racked up rewards in the TFT pass. Riot finally decided to do something about it.

Token farming bot and mass bans

The community went wild after the information that the creators of League of Legends are banning accounts that are linked with a well-known TFT bot. Initially, this program was highly praised because it didn’t seem very harmful – it only helped with getting more games played.

After it was revealed that you can get banned for using a bot, there have been many comments on the internet like this:

Don’t use it! A lot of people were banned for that.

Don’t use this bot. A wave of bans from Riot just arrived. My account was permanently banned because I was using it while playing.

My other account was banned. Riot can detect if any of you have used this bot.

Any of you got banned today? I heard that Riot scanned all the servers and over 50,000 accounts were banned.

The community tried to warn others not to try to use any third-party software that could help them get tokens. After the passes were modified, the missions are all about spending time in the game – the new system tempted players to try using bots that offered a hefty amount of tokens with zero effort on the part of the account owner.

It is widely known that Riot does not endorse suspicious programs that could somehow cheat the game or circumvent its rules. Even a short period of using bots can end up in losing your account. Players advise others not to try to install any additional programs because it is simply not worth the risk.

These types of bots will probably appear on the market more than once. The creators of LoL try to fight them in every way possible.
