Riot speaks out about the long-awaited rework of one of the oldest heroes in League of Legends – Udyr.
In February 2021, there was a questionnaire about the characters that should be reworked by League of Legends developers in the 2022 season. The vast majority of the community voted for one of the first heroes to be released, Udyr.
Now, after many weeks of silence, the silence was broken and the players were informed of the progress. It turns out the basic model is ready, and so are the skills. Current works only include skins. The focus was on one, created “with love”.
The current state of Udyr’s rework
The rework of the Spirit Wanderer, released on December 2, 2009, was long-awaited by players. His skills and overall appearance are outdated and he finally won the poll for the future VGU in early 2021 by an overwhelming majority of votes.
However, for the last several weeks there has been a silence on this topic and no information on the progress of the work has been made available to interested players until now. It turns out that it’s practically ready, and the team working on it is currently focused on the skins.
Base Udyr is finished at this point and now we are focusing on his skin catalog, with most of the team working on his Spirit Guard skin. We really want to pour a lot of love and attention into that skin, with it being an Ultimate and all.

One of the goals for Spirit Guard is to keep some of the essence of old Udyr, so to do that it will represent the time he spent training in Ionia, and will also use the same animals as pre-VGU Udyr (Tiger, Bear, Turtle, and Phoenix). We wanted Spirit Guard to immortalize his old animal forms, while also cranking them up to 11.
Players have to wait a little longer for its premiere. Reav3 has confirmed that it will take place not earlier than late summer.
This means that a new jungler will be released first, then a shooter, and only after some time will the rework of Udyr be released. It is possible that it will even happen at the end of the vacation.
