Some people watching a new series from Netflix are now accusing it of racism.

Rather, no one would have expected that Netflix – a platform mainly associated with tolerance to LGBTQ+ people and different skin colors – would now itself be accused of racism. That’s what happened after the release of its latest hit, Wednesday.

Some viewers do not like the choice of roles of black people. They claim that they only play bad characters in the series and it is pure racism.

Wednesday, Netflix and racism

Premiering at the end of November, the series Wednesday, which tells the story of Morticia and Gomez’s daughter from the popular Adams family, has become a big hit, with the platform reporting record viewings. Tim Burton’s production, however, does not have fans alone. There have been a lot of posts and accusations of racism on Twitter.

Some also stated that they did not understand for what reason black people were so demonized and attributed bad qualities. We’re mainly talking about Bianca Barclay, the title character’s tormentor, played by Nigerian actress Joy Sunday, and Lucas Wilson, who, like Bianca, doesn’t exactly like Wednesday.

It is worth noting, however, that such comments are relatively few, compared to the total. Many people disagree and even note that such posts harm mainly black people.
