After a year of silence, Squid Game fans finally got the first announcement of the upcoming second season of the series.
Information about the second season of Squid Game was rather scarce. Admittedly, the creators have already talked about their plans and what they want to tell in the next part of the series, while it was all said rather in circles and fans so far had no specifics.
It is worth recalling that the first season of Squid Game ended with the main character Seong Gi-hun winning. In the last scene of the series, we could see how the man prepares to leave the country, but at the last moment, he gives up the flight. According to fans, Gi-hun in Squid Game 2 will want to destroy the organization that is responsible for the illegal “contest.”
Squid Game 2 and the first trailer
It’s safe to say that, in a sense, the makers of Squid Game have broken their silence and finally released the first official trailer for the second season of the series, less than a year after the last news.
In the new season of Squid Game, we can expect the return of Gi-hun as the main character, Frontman, and his brother, but most importantly, brand new participants in the game. The new actors in the cast were introduced in the trailer above, but nothing is known about them except that they are to be players of the next edition of the eponymous Squid Game.
In past interviews, Squid Game’s main director Hwang Dong-hyuk suggested as if the characters known from the first season would somehow miraculously return. It is known that all the participants, except for the main character, died, but the creator promised fans that their favorite characters would still appear.
It’s unclear what exactly the director had in mind – does he want to revive the dead characters from the first season in some way, or is he simply talking about flashbacks and memories of living characters to appear in?
It’s also worth mentioning that in February 2023, Lee Jung-jae, i.e. the series’ Gi-hun, informed the media that filming for Squid Game 2 would begin as early as this summer. So it’s likely that filming is already underway or close to it. So it can be assumed that the second season of Squid Game will appear in late 2023 or early 2024.
