Filming for season 5 of Stranger Things halted. All because of the screenwriters’ strike

TV series and movies

It looks like the 5th season of Stranger Things will be delayed by at least a few weeks.

Fans of the cult series from Netflix are eagerly awaiting the next season. Despite the fact that the 4th installment of the series has just been released, people are still hungry for the story. And while we recently wrote about the fact that one of the actresses revealed a rather nasty scenario for a certain character for Season 5, unfortunately, we will have to wait even longer than expected.

This is all due to the fact that there is currently a strike of writers, screenwriters, and any people who deal with the “written word” in the film, television or Internet industry.

Stranger Things season 5 delayed by strikes

The Writers Guild of America has recently been fighting to increase its wages and job security, but more importantly to limit the use of artificial intelligence in the writing and creative process. The fact that AI has grown so rapidly in recent months has begun to threaten all creative and artistic professions, mainly because the work of the workers in question can already be realistically replaced by artificial intelligence.

Employees of major corporations finally began to fight for their rights, to the point of an official strike by the Writers Guild of America, which began a few days ago – on May 2, 2023. And unfortunately, it looks like the protest has begun to have a real impact on a number of companies and brands, although surprisingly many of them have begun to support the movement of disgruntled writers and employees. One of those companies includes Netflix, which has officially started supporting the Guild and halted production of some of its titles.

One of them is precisely Stranger Things and season 5 of the series. The Duffer brothers, best known as the creators of Stranger Things, confirmed on Twitter that the series will halt development in support of the Writers Guild of America strike.

Unfortunately, the makers did not say how long the hiatus might last. Rather, no one at the moment is able to say when the strike might end, looking at the fact that it has only just begun. Realistically looking, the whole thing could last up to a few months, although it’s unclear whether Stranger Things executives will decide to take such a long break, looking at the fact that the premiere of Season 5 was estimated for late 2023 or early 2024.
