PokeStops and Gyms power up in Pokemon GO? Niantic is testing a new feature

Players will be able to strengthen PokeStops to receive valuable rewards.

PokeStops and Gyms are an important part of the Pokemon GO game. Players can visit them to gain access to various rewards – after spinning, the trainers receive random items, including e.g. PokeBalls, fruit, gifts to send to friends, or stickers. PokeStops also offer random tasks called Field Research.

Gyms, of course, in addition to offering items, are also a meeting place for players as part of raids or a place to fight for which team will take over a given gym. Taking over gyms is a way to earn in-game currency – PokeCoins.

It turns out that Niantic wants to introduce a new feature that will be to strengthen PokeStops and Gyms. What is going on?

PokeStops and Gyms power up

The developers announced that they are testing a new feature that will allow you to power up PokeStops and Gyms. How is it supposed to work? According to the information on the website, each place of this type can have a level from 1 to 3. Raising to a higher level will guarantee better rewards gained from a PokeStop.

How can a specific PokeStop or Gym be strengthened? It is enough to send an AR scan of a specific location. More scans will bring more points and hence – PokeStop or Gym will be upgraded to a higher level.

When a PokeStop or Gym are topped up to a new level, they will change their appearance on the map. This will allow you to recognize which locations have been upgraded. Players will be able to go to them to receive valuable rewards.

It is also important to know that not all gyms or PokeStops will have the option of strengthening.

For now, the new feature is only available to coaches in specific regions. Niantic emphasizes that this is still a testing phase, so many things are subject to change. For now, it is not known whether the power-up of a PokeStop will take this form and whether players will be interested in it.
