Blizzard is gearing up for a wave of cheaters in Overwatch 2, and it’s not very good news.

For several days, there has been a lot of talk in the Overwatch community about securing the second part against cheaters.

Kephrii is a well-known streamer in the Overwatch community who has recently started the topic of cheaters on social media. He wrote on his Twitter that Blizzard must seriously deal with the issue of OW2 security because even now Overwatch has to deal with a huge problem of cheaters.

Blizzard is said to ban 2,000 accounts a week, although it is not really known where Kephrii got this data. It is possible that it is calculated on the basis of official announcements, but it is difficult to confirm it.

Blizzard is looking for someone to work on an anti-cheat

The fears of players are well-founded because currently one of the most important factors protecting Overwatch is the fact that you still have to pay for the game. If OW switches to a free-to-play business model, it will be almost a repeat of CS: GO.

Overwatch’s current security is trivial to break, there are tons of free programs on the web that can easily handle the current AC. So it’s good to see that Blizzard is looking for people for a new anticheat.

The official job site lists AC that is intended to go directly to Overwatch 2. The only question is whether it will be something like a Valve’s or Riot’s anti-cheat.

At the moment, it is not known what the case of cheaters in Overwatch really looks like. Blizzard likes to publish data about bans, but they mostly concern offensive behavior and nicknames. Currently, it is difficult to judge whether there is an actual problem with cheaters in OW or not. They certainly appear, but the scale of it has so far been one big mystery.
