What does Apple’s virtual reality hardware look like? Patents and everything you know about it

Virtual reality goggles from Apple. What will they most likely look like?

Virtual reality has already made its way into both the gaming market and technology fans in general, who have had the opportunity to test the Meta, for which Facebook is responsible, among other things.

As the VR market continues to grow and is assumed to reach an even larger group of people, it has also attracted the interest of Apple, which has decided to create its own goggles. What is known about them?

Apple Reality Pro – AR/VR goggles

More than two years ago, The Information published an extensive report detailing the late-stage prototype design and other specifications that were to be expected. Along with that report, a sketch based on photos of the prototype headset was published.

Although this graphic gives a good idea of what to expect from the new device, the rumors that have emerged in recent months provide a better picture of Apple’s new hardware.

We are still anticipating an aluminum frame with a curved glass front; however, with many different sources comparing the design to ski goggles, we decided to lean into that and change the frame’s shape to resemble a pair of typical ski goggles. We are left with a thin and sleek device that looks remarkably similar to an Apple Watch, AirPods Max.

The device is expected to include quite a few sensors and cameras, which will be hidden in the frame and behind the glass that is its front. Some also believe that the front may include a display to depict the user’s facial expressions, while others say it is merely a joke by Apple engineers.

The strap continues in the style of the Apple Watch, but there are a few distinct differences in the latest renders – the left side is one-piece, and the only way to remove the strap is from the right side.

Although it was not planned from the beginning, the headset will not include a battery pack. Instead, you will have to carry a battery pack connected to the goggles. On the right side is a clasp that also serves as a charger.

The screens are expected to be quite a revolution. Ross Young announced yesterday that they will be Micro OLEDs with a diagonal of 1.4 inches, 4K resolution per eye, and brightness of more than 5,000 nits. Due to the design, however, it’s worth bearing in mind that the perceived brightness will be lower due to the polarization of the lens stack, typically 80% to 90%.

There are only a few days left until WWDC 2023, during which Apple will announce what it has been working on for the past few years. The Worldwide Developer Conference will take place on Monday, June 5, and will be streamed live on Apple’s official YouTube channel.
