Riot loves Zeri so much that they have changed her a dozen times in just 9 updates

Zeri is one of the most changed characters in LoL. Riot has done this 12 times in the span o 9 updates.

Zeri is one of the most controversial characters released this year. Zaun’s Spark hit the official servers on January 20, 2022 and created havoc. At first, she was weak until players learned to play her and Riot had to intervene.

For a total of 9 updates, it was decided to change her as many as 12 times. She had to be hotfixed in four patches. This shows how difficult she is to balance.

Zeri changed 12 times

Each season in League of Legends has a hero to whom Riot has dedicated its “200 years of experience” in computer game development. In the previous year, there were several of them, but Viego turned out to be the most broken. This year, however, it is Zeri, who made her debut this season.

Riot has a clear problem with matching her to the meta. This is evidenced by the fact that in the span of 9 updates she was nerfed or buffed as many as 12 times. Her skills or base stats have been tweaked in all patches except 12.8 and 12.9. All changes are as follows:

  • 12.2
    • Official entrance.
    • [Hotfix] R.
  • 12.3
    • Basic statistics,
    • Basic attack,
    • Q, E, R changes,
    • Bug fixes.
  • 12.4
    • Basic Attack Changes
    • Q, W, R.
  • 12.5
    • Statistics,
    • Basic attack,
    • Q, E, R changes.
  • 12.7
    • Changes to stats, Q, W, E, R.
    • [Hotfix] Statistics fix and W, E, R.
  • 12.10
    • Statistics changes.
  • 12.11
    • Basic attack,
    • Q, W, E, R changes.
    • [Hotfix] Basic attack, Q fix, E.
  • 12.12
    • Statistics,
    • W changes,
    • [Hotfix] R change.
  • 12.14
    • Basic attack,
    • R changes.

Zeri is another hero similar to Ryze, Kista, and Azir. These champions are extremely strong in the professional scene and weak in the ranked queue. As a result, the creators cannot buff them too much so that they do not overwhelm the tournaments. This raises a small problem that – as you can see – is hard to solve. Perhaps it will be different with the champion in question and Riot will find a solution later this year.
