Riot blocked one of the exploits that made it easier to get ranks in League of Legends
How did Riot decide to disable the strategy that allowed players to easily boost up their MMR?
Ranked queue in League of Legends is taken very seriously by a lot of players. Lots of fans set goals that they pursue throughout the season. The vast majority of players approach this topic honestly, playing at their level, but recently players discovered a serious exploit that allowed them to raise their MMR – the hidden number by which the system selects players in the ranked queue.
The MMR boost was possible thanks to the account transfer. The rank was dropping and the player had to play in order for the Division to be visible. Nevertheless, the hidden indicator of the player’s level is improving, which has been used by some to unfairly boost up their hidden rankings.
No more fake MMR boosts
A large number of players took advantage of the aforementioned vulnerability in the ranking system and it was not without penalties.
What exactly is the patch description posted by the developers?
Adding Regional Transfer Rank Preservation. If you transfer your account out of a region and back to that region within two weeks, your account’s ranked state upon returning to your original region will be restored to what it was when you left. This is intended to curb some region-transfer rank abuse we’ve been seeing and also means you won’t have to re-do your ranked climb if you take your League account with you on a quick vacation.

Besides the fact that an MMR-related exploit was used, players could use server switching in other ways. As you know, different regions differ in level, and players from higher divisions could move to boost the ranked rating. Such people will have to take into account that a quick return to the original server will completely erase their progress.
