Meanwhile, in SoloQ, Faker plays with a character that you certainly wouldn’t choose today

It is no wonder that the choices of the best players in the world differ from those of “normal” players. In the case of Faker, however, these are quite surprising differences.
There are a few characters in LoL now that have a very big problem with the number of games they win. If we take into account all the levels of the game, all the roles and game modes (normal + ranked), this is the picture of the TOP 5 worst characters in the game:
These are characters that are not worth choosing at the moment. You can see by their popularity that they probably don’t have too many fans. And yet, one of them is a Faker’s favorite.
The surprising Faker’s choice
Faker this season of LoL most often did not play the most popular hero at all. The TOP 1 of his choices on ranked games is… Ryze. One of the best players in the world in the 2022 season most often plays Ryze, who is considered the worst character in all of LoL. Moreover, Faker managed to squeeze 46% winrate out of him.
And it’s not even that in the EU or NA people don’t like playing Ryze, and in Korea, he is one of the most popular heroes. Even KR knows that he is not worth taking.
So why does Faker choose Ryze? This is still a good counter against characters that are often played in KR.
Especially against LeBlanc, who is very popular in KR. Faker knows exactly what counters her, because it is LeBlanc who is most often pulled out by him at the professional level. These are Faker’s stats when he is playing on tournaments:
Ryze’s stats look the worst of all the characters Faker has opted for, but he still is useful in some games.
