The CEO of Epic Games unveils the first Battle Royale game with building ever. It comes from 1980

Tim Sweeney, mentioning his inspiration, showed the first BR game to have a building system.


Epic had many different kinds of inspiration at the time of Fortnite’s creation. One of them was the production from 1980. Funnily enough, most Fortnite players weren’t even alive back then, but yes, Warlords was created over 40 years ago.

It has little to do with Fortnite, but it is actually the Battle Royale formula (the last player wins) and has a system of building and destroying structures. Curious what Epic’s inspiration looks like?

Tim Sweeney mentioned on Twitter the first game that had Fortnite elements in it.

Already on the preview, you can see that it is not bad. It is a game based on simple rules. Each player has “his base” that others must destroy.

You can laugh, but this is how creating something completely new is. Of course, when Fortnite was released, there were other Battle Royale productions on the market. It cannot be said that Epic was the first with this formula in the gaming world.
