Fortnite players forced to verify their age by entering their card number
Fortnite players, but also Epic Store users in general, have recently received the same e-mails to confirm their identity. Epic confirmed they are real.
It’s hard to say how many players this applies to, but Epic did ask a large chunk of the community to confirm their identity. Many people wondered if the emails were genuine, but yes – Epic confirmed it itself.
What are these e-mails for? Epic wants to make sure that players have correctly declared their age. As a result, the message mentions “that you are an adult”. The e-mails are the same, of course, they differ in language.
Epic confirms these emails are from them
Players were given two age confirmation options. One is the last 4 digits of the SSN – that is, your Social Security Number in the United States. Probably this option is reserved only for the US.
The second option is to provide, or rather to connect, a bank card to your account. Then the account will be charged 0.50USD for verification.
It is not known what will happen if a person fails the check. It is also unknown how many people Epic treated in this way. It is possible that the matter concerns only the USA, but this has not been confirmed anywhere.
Gamers wondered if it was actually “legitimate,” so Epic confirmed the truthfulness of the news via Reddit. This system has been in existence since 2021, but so far it has not been heard of.
