Why do some Discord users have a yellow icon instead of the classic blue one?

Some people probably know, others are just about to find out, that Discord does not have the same icon in all versions at all.

People are used to Discord having a blue icon just as much on mobile devices as on computers. It has sometimes changed over the years, but rather never for yellow.

However, some users have yellow icons. This is not a bug at all, but an intended action and function of Discord. Where does this come from?

Discord’s yellow icon

You should know that Discord actually has 3 different versions. The first is the completely normal one that most people use. The second is the beta, and the third is the alpha. The alpha version is by far the least stable, and is often called “Canary.” Even Discord writes about it on its website:

The version signed as “Alpha” differs not only in features, but also in the color of the icon. This one becomes yellow and looks like this:

Can anyone download it? Sure thing. However, if you like everything to work, it is rather not worth the risk. This version is the least stable (web browser):

If one searches, one can find versions for PC and mobile devices alike. However, it is worthwhile before trying it out to really dig deep into what can happen after installation.
